Dia Uno

Hola! Everyone is enjoying a midday seista, so I thought I'd pop on here and share a bit with you. We arrived yesturday around 2:30 pm. Picture this: We stepped off our huge American plane out into 87 degree sunny weather (still wearing our pants and warm clothes). As we walked down the sidewalk, we passed an open air building with rows of seats and a simple rope between them and the tarmack. This is the terminal. A little farther down we enter the customs building. We look up and there are 2 "Big Ass Fans", each with a wingspan of atleast 20 feet, slowly oscillating and sending a nice breeze down on us. We get our passports stamped and take our luggage through security where a tico with his shirt unbuttoned quickly looks through it (no x-ray machines or metal detectors). A cool 10 minutes later, we walk out the front of the building and are greeted by our drivers Edwin and Eddie. As they take our luggage to the vans, we quickly change in the bathrooms into something cooler and exchange our money. The atm tells us we have 2 million colones in our account....we are rich!

We set off for our ultimate destination, Nosara. A 4 hour drive from Liberia, we get to take in the amazing sites of this country. We stopped at a mercado and picked up some snacks and Imperial for the road. It felt so illegal to look over at Dwayne - drinking - in a vehicle, but it's all legal here. About three hours into the ride, we arrive in Nosara...however it's another hour down a dirt road to our hotel. We pass over partially washed out bridges with no railing and barely wide enough for one vehicle. Dogs jaunt alongside the van close enough that you could reach out the window and scratch it's ear. We attempt to pass a tico on a bike and quickly find out he's on his way home from the bar, so we made a wide pass around him, and look back into the face of the most determined man on earth. At last we arrive at the Harbor Reef Lodge...the sun has already set but we can tell it's a mystical place and cannot wait to begin our weeklong stay in paradise.
